I participate in a group called “Friday Fictioneers”, where a photo prompt is given each week, and the goal is to write a 100 word flash fiction story based on the prompt. I am trying to incorporate both the A-Z Challenge and Friday Fictioneers today. Let’s see how I do today…(although it is over 100 words).
It was a modern house, full of modern things. It only looked old from the outside, or so she had heard the others say when she would listen in on their conversations. Winny wasn’t quite sure how she came to be here. All she knew was she went to sleep one morning in her old house high on the hill, and when she woke up she was here…in a new house with an odd smell, surrounded by other modern houses full of new people. Winny was confused, of course, but she had her books with her from her old house, and the people seemed nice (although clueless about lots of things – like what to leave out for her to eat). But Winny supposed she couldn’t be picky, and it was nice to have the sound of human voices and footsteps around her again.
Winny stood up, stretched, and shook her wings. She flew to the bookcase – up to the top shelf, moved behind the books, and laid down on her cobweb bed. Her eyes closed, wings folded around her, and her breathing deepened as she drifted off to the land of Nod.
